Mosqueda, the first first-time candidate to win using Democracy Vouchers and the first to qualify for Vouchers this year, has raised over half of her contributions in Vouchers
SEATTLE – Seattle Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda, who launched her re-election campaign in January, held a virtual campaign kick-off Thursday night. The Zoom event was attended by 150 supporters including speakers King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay, small business owner Chera Amlag of Hood Famous Bakery, housing champion Patience Malaba, WSLC Secretary Treasurer April Sims, and MLKCLC Deputy Executive Secretary Katie Garrow.
The event highlighted the accomplishments of Mosqueda’s first term including passing JumpStart to avoid austerity cuts, essential investments in housing, small businesses, and community, and protecting wins for working families including the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, hazard pay for essential grocery workers, and protections for app-based workers.
Looking ahead, Mosqueda said, “Our city is at a crossroads. With your continued support, we can create the kind of Seattle we all want: a resilient, thriving, safe, and welcoming city all of us are proud to call home and where everyone has a place to go home.”
Mosqueda also unveiled a new campaign video speaking to her commitment to building a stronger, more equitable Seattle. The video, which highlights Iron Workers, housing and homelessness solutions, small businesses, and community leaders, will be released to the public on Monday.
Mosqueda’s campaign has raised over $100,000 in less than two months, with 964 unique donors and an average contribution of just $53.50. Over half of all contributions have come in through Democracy Vouchers. Mosqueda was the first first-time candidate to win using Seattle’s publicly financed campaign system and was the first to qualify for the program this year.
