Statement from King County Council Candidate Teresa Mosqueda on Primary Election Night Results

For Immediate Release: August 1, 2023
Contact: Alexis Mansanarez, alexis@teamteresa.org

“I am blown away by the outpouring of support for our campaign for King County Council from voters across District 8! It has been an honor to build broad coalitions to pass landmark policy at the City of Seattle, and tonight it is clear that voters want to unite diverse interests and voices to get big things done across our region.

Thank you to my neighbors in Tukwila, Burien, Vashon-Maury Island, White Center, West Seattle, Seattle Chinatown-International District, Capitol Hill, First Hill, SODO, Georgetown, South Park, and Downtown Seattle! You have made your voices heard in this election. Together, we can invest in greater behavioral health and public health support; expand housing and services for our unhoused neighbors that make it possible for people to get and stay stably housed; and invest in what working families and small businesses need: affordable childcare, accessible transit, and good job opportunities.

We have a long campaign ahead to connect with voters who did not turn out tonight. We are going to be working hard in the next three months to reach people where they are, register our neighbors to vote, and make sure they make their voices heard on November 7. And of course, make sure that we have a lot more to celebrate on Election Night, so we can continue working together to solve problems, make a difference, and support communities across District 8.”

As a Progressive Labor Democrat, Teresa Mosqueda is committed to creating healthy and safe communities, investing in working families through job training, childcare and transit access, and developing more affordable housing for all residents. Mosqueda brings a proven track record of successfully passing progressive policies and building broad and inclusive coalitions.

Prior to being elected to the Seattle City Council, Mosqueda worked on community health policies from SeaMar to the Children’s Alliance and worked with the WA State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, where she helped lead and win the successful statewide initiative, I-1433, to increase the minimum wage and provide paid sick leave for all.
